RODANTHE, N.C. (AP) — Residents of Hawaii's Big Island are bracing for what could be the first Pacific hurricane to make landfall in the state in decades. Forecasters say Hurricane Madeline is expected to weaken from its current Category 3 strength, but it will remain a hurricane as it passes Hawaii. Meanwhile, a tropical weather system bringing strong winds and heavy rains could flood low-lying areas in North Carolina's Outer Banks.

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will be traveling to Mexico Wednesday to meet with President Enrique Pena Nieto. The meeting will happen just hours before Trump delivers a highly anticipated speech on immigration. On Tuesday, Trump accused people in the U.S. illegally of taking jobs from minority workers.

PHOENIX (AP) — U.S. Sen. John McCain is advancing to the November election to seek a sixth term. On Tuesday he won the Republican primary, beating tea party activist and former state Sen. Kelli Ward and two other Republicans. Ward got national attention when she said that at 80 years old, McCain would be unable to complete another term.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration says it will distribute $53 million to 44 states in an effort to curb opioid abuse. Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell says the funding will focus on reducing the over-prescribing of pain killers, increasing access to treatment and making sure the antidote naloxone is widely available.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A 13-year-old boy in Philadelphia is facing charges after police say he accidentally shot himself and a 12-year-old girl. The boy was charged Tuesday with aggravated assault and weapons offenses. Officers went to a Philadelphia home Monday night after getting a report of a person with a gun. They found the girl shot in the right knee. Police say the boy had been waving the gun when it went off, also striking the boy in his left hand.
