BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — The U.S. government will decide in coming years if federal protections are needed for a small, fanged predator of the Northern Rockies, a massive snapping turtle that lives in the Deep South and seven other species. Deadlines for the decisions were contained in a Tuesday settlement between government attorneys and the Center for Biological Diversity. The advocacy group sued the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in March after officials missed previous decision deadlines, sometimes by years.

UNDATED (AP) — A legal settlement filed Tuesday requires the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to decide on Endangered Species Act protections for nine species under deadlines

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — The south entrance to Yellowstone National Park has reopened after being closed for more than a week because of a wildfire in neighboring Grand Teton National Park. Firefighters doused hot spots and cleared downed and dangerous burned trees along a highway to the Yellowstone entrance.
