WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid is asking the FBI to investigate the threat of Russian tampering with U.S. elections. Reid says in a letter to FBI Director James Comey that "evidence of a direct connection between the Russian government and Donald Trump's presidential campaign continues to mount." Reid points to ties between the Trump campaign and Russian interests and he mentions possible hacks of Democratic political organizations.
MIAMI (AP) — Forecasters have issued a tropical storm warning for a long stretch of North Carolina's Outer Banks. They expect a tropical depression southeast of Cape Hatteras to become a tropical storm by early Tuesday. It was last tracked with winds of 35 mph. Another depression is about 240 miles west of Key West, Florida, with maximum winds of 35 mph. Authorities in parts of the Tampa-St. Petersburg area are hauling out sandbags to offer residents.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — U.S. Congressman Cresent Hardy of Nevada is recovering after suffering a heart attack. A spokesman says the 59-year-old Republican underwent a routine medical procedure after Monday night's medical emergency and remains hospitalized. Spokesman Larry Farnsworth says Hardy is expected to return to a full schedule later this week.
VALDOSTA, Ga. (AP) — One person was killed and several others were injured after a school bus collided with semitractor-trailer on Interstate 75 in Valdosta, Georgia. The Georgia State Patrol says the bus was transporting Lowndes County High School students when the accident happened Monday afternoon. There's no word on the person who was killed. About 13 students on the bus were hurt.
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — New Zealand resident Willy Leferink says his neighbor is too embarrassed to talk about it, but he says the farmer just realized that he's missing some 500 cows. Locals say they've never heard of cattle rustling on a massive scale, and police are investigating. Leferink says the cows disappeared between early July and late this month, and his neighbor only noticed they were gone when not as much feed was being consumed.
