NEW YORK (AP) — Open day matches in the U.S. Tennis Open are taking place today in New York. The men's top-seed, Novak Djokovic (NOH'-vak JOH'-kuh-vich), begins play while women's No. 1 Serena Williams has the day off.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Seattle and Texas begin a three-game series in Arlington tonight with the Rangers leading the Mariners by 7 ½ games in the American League West. Former Japanese pitching stars Yu Darvish of the Rangers and Hisashi Iwakuma (hee-SAH'-shee ee-wah-KOO'-mah) are squaring off in tonight's opening game. They split their previous two meetings in the majors, with each winning at home.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Toronto begins the new week with a two game lead over Boston in the Americana League East. Baltimore is just three back and tonight the Orioles and Blue Jays begin a three game series in Baltimore. The second-place Red Sox are home to Tampa Bay tonight.

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (AP) — Patrick Reed won The Barclays yesterday, the first of the four FedEx Cup playoff tournaments. He finished 9-under, one shot in front of Sean O'Hare and Emiliano Grillo (eh-mee-lee-AN'-oh GREE'-yoh). By winning, Reed clinched a spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team.

UNDATED (AP) — There were two major auto races yesterday, and at the Michigan International Speedway Kyle Larson took the checkered flag for his first Sprint Cup victory. The winner of the Belgian Grand Prix was pole sitter Nico (NEE'-koh) Rosberg, who finished in front of Daniel Ricciardo (rih-KAHR'-doh).
