BRUSSELS (AP) — Officials in Belgium say reports of a bomb going off at Belgium's criminal institute are false. Officials say the incident is much more likely an arson attack on a crime lab, but that it's not terrorism. A spokeswoman says, "I cannot confirm that there was any bomb." State broadcaster RTBF and other outlets had reported that a car drove through a security barrier at the site early today, followed by an explosion that caused significant damage to the facility on Brussels' north side. No one was injured.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Reports of a gunman opening fire at Los Angeles International Airport have turned out to be false. Those reports Sunday night caused panicked people to run out of the airport and flights saw major delays. Police search the area but they say they found nothing. Airport officials say a person wearing a Zorro costume was detained during the incident, but it's not yet clear whether that person had any connection to the evacuation.
BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) — Brazil's president Dilma Rousseff will address the Senate today in her impeachment trial. Rousseff is accused of hurting her country's economy with budget manipulations. She says she's done nothing wrong and is being targeted by corrupt lawmakers. Late last year Rousseff's opponents in Congress presented a measure to remove her from office.
CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — An Australian aid worker kidnapped in Afghanistan in April had been released and is safe. Australia's foreign minister has not given details on the release of Kerry Jane Wilson, but thanked Afghan authorities for their help in facilitating her release. Wilson was kidnapped in the eastern city of Jalalabad. Afghan authorities have not said who abducted her.
SYDNEY (AP) — Three Canadian cruise ship passengers are charged with drug smuggling after police in Sydney, Australia say they found 209 pounds of cocaine in their cabin luggage. An Australian Border Force commander says the haul is valued at 31 million Australian dollars ($23 million), and is the largest ever seizure in Australia of narcotics carried by passengers of a cruise ship or airliner.
