ATLANTA (AP) — Layshia Clarendon and Angel McCoughtry scored 19 points each to help the Atlanta Dream beat the Connecticut Sun 87-73 on Sunday.
Tiffany Hayes added 17 points and Elizabeth Williams scored 16. Clarendon made all three of her 3-point attempts and McCoughtry made 2 of 3 from the arc.
The Dream (14-13), fifth in the AP power poll, pulled away with an 8-0 run midway through the third quarter and led by no less than 10 after scoring six straight early in the fourth.
Chiney Ogwumike had 24 points and Courtney Williams scored 13 for the ninth-ranked Sun (9-17). Connecticut never led after the opening minutes but closed within 46-42 early in the third quarter.
Atlanta remained in fourth place in the league standings which would qualify for a first-round bye in the playoffs.
