DETROIT (AP) — The University of Michigan Museum of Art is planning a week of outdoor film screenings, performances and other events in an effort to expand arts and culture beyond its galleries.

"Nights at the Museum" is the Ann Arbor cultural institution's first outdoor media art initiative, which will be illuminated on its State Street facade. The public programming begins Friday as the university welcomes new students and runs nightly from 8:30 p.m. until dawn.

Highlights include digital paintings by the artist Quayola that are inspired by the work of Vincent Van Gogh, short art films and performances by university students and ensembles.

A family friendly movie night is planned for Monday with a screening of "Toy Story."
