AMATRICE, Italy (AP) — Pope Francis says he plans to visit an area in Italy struck by a deadly earthquake to bring the people there the "comfort of faith." Francis also led prayers for the inhabitants of an area struck by the powerful earthquake Wednesday that killed at least 290 people. Italy's central mountains are a seismically active region that has suffered other earthquake tragedies in the past.

LONDON (AP) — British Prime Minister Theresa May is bringing her Cabinet together at her rural retreat to plot Britain's first steps on leaving the European Union. Officials at May's Downing Street office say May will oversee a daylong brainstorming session with Cabinet colleagues Wednesday at Chequers, the prime minister's 16th-century mansion northwest of London.

JUBA, South Sudan (AP) — The top monitor of South Sudan's peace deal says that he and diplomats support the disputed appointment of a new vice president in order to support the country's shaky peace agreement. Former Botswana President Festus Mogae told The Associated Press in an interview Sunday that although the legitimacy of Taban Deng as first vice president is questionable, diplomats will work with him because they "don't have an option."

WEST DEPTFORD, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a man fatally beat his parents with his hands and an object inside the family's New Jersey home. But the motive for the attack in West Deptford, a suburb of Philadelphia, remains under investigation. Prosecutors say a relative found 58-year-old Edward Coles Jr. and his 55-year-old wife, Rosemarie, on Friday morning. The couple's 28-year-old son, Ryan, has been jailed. He's facing murder and weapons charges.

UNDATED (AP) — General Motors is recalling nearly 368,000 vehicles to fix a defective part that could prevent the windshield wipers from working. The problem affects the 2013 models of the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain. GM says those vehicles were built with ball joints that could corrode and wear out to render the windshield wipers inoperable. GM says it will cover the repair costs once it determines when it will be able to fix the problem.
