DURANT, Miss. (AP) — A spokeswoman for the Mississippi Department of Corrections says the man arrested in the killing of two nuns in Mississippi has a criminal record and is currently on probation. She says Rodney Earl Sanders was convicted of a felony DUI and sentenced on Feb. 23, 2015 and was later released from prison and is on probation. She says he was also convicted of armed robbery and served six years. He was sentenced Oct. 17, 1986.

CHICAGO (AP) — The investigation is ongoing into the killing of NBA star Dwyane Wade's cousin on a Chicago street. Nykea Aldridge was killed Friday afternoon while pushing her baby in a stroller near a school. Police are trying to determine if the 32-year-old mother of four was hit by a stray bullet during a robbery. Police say she was not the intended target. Detectives are interrogating two "people of interest."

HOMEWOOD, Ala. (AP) - A mother is being charged with reckless manslaughter in the death of her son who drowned in the pool at a central Alabama apartment while she shopped at Walmart. Al.com reports that Homewood police say the 29-year-old woman initially told them she was home at the time, but surveillance video from Walmart showed she was at the store when the child drowned on July 26.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Donald Trump is warning of a "war on the American farmer." He told a crowd in Des Moines, Iowa, today that rival Hillary Clinton "wants to shut down family farms" and implement anti-agriculture policies. Polls show a tight contest in Iowa. Joining Trump on stage at Sen. Joni Ernst's annual Roast and Ride event, were top Iowa Republicans — among them Ernst, Gov. Terry Branstad, Sen. Chuck Grassley and Rep. Steve King.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Clinton is learning more about the major threats facing the nation around the globe. She met today for more than two hours with intelligence officials at the FBI office in White Plains, New York, not far from her Westchester County home. It was her first official national security briefing since becoming the Democratic nominee. Trump received his briefing earlier this month, a customary move for major party nominees.
