This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Just the word "safari" conjures up thoughts of excitement, adventure, thrills and romance. A Park City company, Safari Experts, is making it possible to visit ancient, distant, holy and wild lands in a very pleasant and enjoyable way.

I loved sitting in the office of Tim Lapage and hearing tales of the beautiful lands of Africa and Australia. Tim told me how he takes guests into lands where the culture hasn't changed for 1500 years. His safaris are very special because of his intimate knowledge of these indigenous cultures, as well as the ecosystems, wildlife behavior and geology. He provides travelers the opportunity to walk or ride horses among the wildlife, and stay in luxurious homes where they are truly the guests of the private owners of the lands.

I thought it was very interesting how Tim happened to bring his residence and his business to Park City. In 1979 Tim was an airline captain in the Middle East, and on his days off he would fly small aircraft in Africa for tourists. One day he had as passengers two couples from Utah æ Mitch and Dore Mielich, and Rhoda and Upton Ramsey. He told them that someday he wanted to move to Aspen, Colorado and start a safari business. Dore and Rhoda quickly said, "Good idea Š but wrong place! You must come to Utah and Park City instead." Well, he did and has never regretted the decision. Since that time he has taken hundreds of Utahns and thousands of others throughout the United States to visit both Africa and Australia. New Zealand and Argentina are offered now, as well.

Tim is a native of Kenya and knows all of Africa very well. He incorporates a lifetime of experience and connections to help clients put together extremely personalized trips. "Unlike other safari companies, we are independent consultants without the Œmiddle man,'" Lapage said. I was pleased to hear that the trips are not just for the wealthy; in fact, the range of price and experience is really left to the desires and imagination of the travelers. At SafariExperts.com, dreams of an alluring adventure really become reality.
