DANVILLE, Va. (AP) — Denmark's Jan Magnussen earned his first IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship pole position since 2014 in qualifying Saturday at Virginia International Raceway.

The 2-hour, 40-minute race is Sunday on the 3.27-mile circuit.

Driving the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R he shares with co-driver Antonio Garcia, Magnussen had a fast lap of 1 minute, 41.557 seconds (115.9 mph) to break the GT Le Mans class track record at the recently repaved circuit. He edged teammate Tommy Milner in the No. 4 Corvette by 0.011 seconds.

It was Magnussen's first IMSA pole since a 2014 in Long Beach, California, and came at a facility where he crashed two years ago and missed that event because of a concussion.

"I am so happy," Magnussen said. "It's so competitive up front you need to get every hundredth out of the car. We beat the (No.) 4 car, it was fantastic. A fantastic effort from the whole team."

Milner had a 1:41.568 (115.9 mph) in the No. 4 car he co-drives with Oliver Gavin. Milner and Gavin top the GTLM class standings and have four victories this season.

Joey Hand will start third in the No. 66 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT. Hand and co-driver Dirk Mueller won the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.

Madison Snow earned his first IMSA GT Daytona class pole position in the No. 48 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan. He had a 1:44.956 (112.1 mph) in the car he shares with Bryan Sellers.
