NEW YORK (AP) — Rookie Gary Sanchez continued his amazing start to his big league career. The Yankees catcher homered for the eighth time in nine games and drove in four runs as New York beat the Baltimore Orioles 14-4 to move five games over .500 for the first time this season.
UNDATED (AP) — The Toronto Blue Jays have regained a one-game lead over Boston atop the AL East after routing Minnesota 15-8 as Russell Martin and Justin Smoak each homered and drove in five runs. Meanwhile, the Red Sox were falling 6-3 to the Kansas City Royals.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Jedd Gyorko (JUR'-koh) homered and Luke Weaver pitched six strong innings to earn his first major league win as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Oakland Athletics 3-1. The Cardinals have hit at least one home run in their last 15 games.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Tom Brady looked sharp in his preseason debut, throwing a 33-yard touchdown pass to Chris Hogan in helping the New England Patriots to a 19-17 preseason win over the Carolina Panthers. While Brady was on the mark, league MVP Cam Newton struggled mightily in his most extensive playing time of the preseason. Newton threw two interceptions.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — The longest race in IndyCar history -- 11 weeks! -- will finish up tonight at Texas Motor Speedway. James Hinchcliffe was leading on June 12 when the Texas race was red-flagged because of rain after 71 of 248 scheduled laps.
