DURANT, Miss. (AP) — Authorities in Mississippi say they have charged a 46-year-old man in connection with the killing of two nuns. The bodies of Sister Margaret Held and Sister Paula Merrill, both 68, were discovered Thursday after they'd failed to show up for work at a clinic in Lexington, about 10 miles from where they lived.

CHICAGO (AP) — A family spokesman says a female cousin of Chicago Bulls star Dwyane Wade has been fatally shot while pushing a baby in a stroller on the city's South Side. Wade posted on Twitter: "Another act of senseless gun violence. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON. Unreal." The baby was unhurt.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A federal judge has ruled that two students and an employee must be allowed to use restrooms matching their gender identity at University of North Carolina campuses. The judge temporarily blocked enforcement of a state law requiring transgender people to use public restrooms that correspond to the sex on their birth certificates.

AMATRICE, Italy (AP) — Saturday will be a day of national mourning in Italy, three days after a pre-dawn quake that's claimed at least 281 lives. There will be a state funeral attended by President Sergio Mattarella. Rescue workers acknowledge they might not find any more survivors from Wednesday's quake.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. Security Council has strongly condemned four North Korean ballistic missile launches in July and August. The council called the launches "grave violations" of a ban on all ballistic missile activity. North Korea's Foreign Ministry called the discussions a "terrible provocation" even before they ended.
