SALT LAKE CITY (August 27, 2008) - The Salt Lake Bees clinched the Pacific North Title and qualified for the 2008 Pacific Coast League (PCL) Playoffs tonight after defeating the Portland Beavers 4-0. The win gives the Bees a five-game division lead, leaving the division title out of reach for Tacoma. Postseason play begins Wednesday, September 3. This marks Salt Lake's third consecutive trip to the playoffs and 12th trip overall. Last season, the Bees lost in five games to the Sacramento River Cats in the conference playoffs.
In postseason play (each series is a best of five games), the Pacific North winner plays the Pacific South winner and the American South winner plays the American North winner. The winner from each series will meet in the PCL Championship Series September 9-14. The Salt Lake Bees will face the Sacramento River Cats, winners of the American South Division Title.
The first two games of the series will take place in Sacramento at Raley Field, with Game 1 on Wednesday, September 3 (8:05 p.m.) and Game 2 on Thursday, September 4 (8:05 p.m.). The Bees will then return to Salt Lake City on Friday, September 5 for Game 3 (7:05 p.m.) at Franklin Covey Field. If necessary, Games 4 and 5 would be held on Saturday, September 6 (7:05 p.m.) and Sunday, September 7 (2:05 p.m.) respectively.
The winner of the Pacific Conference Playoffs will then advance to the PCL Championship Series. That series will begin with two games hosted by the Pacific Conference winner and will finish at the American Conference winner's home field. The PCL Champion will then proceed to the Bricktown Showdown, in Oklahoma City, a one-game Triple-A Championship against the International League Champion.
Salt Lake Bees playoff tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 28 and are available by calling 325-SEAT, by visiting the Franklin Covey Field box office, or at slbees.com and select Ticket Master locations. Tickets will only be sold for games that are guaranteed to be played.
