GENEVA (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry says he and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov "have achieved clarity" on a path to restore a truce in Syria. But after meeting off-and-on with Lavrov for nearly 10 hours in Geneva, Kerry says details remain to be worked out. Kerry says experts will remain in Geneva with an eye toward finalizing the unresolved steps in the coming days.
AMATRICE, Italy (AP) — Crews making their way through the earthquake rubble of what were buildings in three hard-hit towns in central Italy are finding more victims than survivors. The death toll has risen to 281. Three more bodies were found in the town of Amatrice (ah-mah-TREE'-cheh), the most badly affected.
DETROIT (AP) — The federal government is seeking to limit how fast trucks, buses and other large vehicles can travel on the nation's highways. A new proposal would impose a nationwide limit by electronically capping speeds with a device on newly made U.S. vehicles that weigh more than 26,000 pounds. Regulators are considering a cap of 60, 65 or 68 mph, though that could change.
CINCINNATI (AP) — There's been a rash of heroin overdoses in several states involving dozens of people and at least six deaths. The spikes in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia over the past few days have seen rescue workers rushing from scene to scene to provide overdose antidote drugs. It's unclear if one dealer or batch is to blame. In Cincinnati, police asked today for the public's help in identifying the source of the heroin behind an estimated 78 overdoses in two days.
MAYFIELD, Ky. (AP) — At least two people have reported finding worms in food from McDonald's restaurants in two Kentucky communities. A woman in Mayfield tells WPSD-TV that she was about to bite into her hamburger, a live worm fell out. Another woman says she says she found a worm in her burger at the McDonald's in Draffenville. A McDonald's spokesman says the firm is investigating.
