Ashley Hayes ReportingOne man is dead and another is critically injured after an early morning car crash.
Utah Highway Patrol says drunk driving has claimed another life, and just off of one of Salt Lake's main highways.
The passenger in the accident is dead and the driver is in the hospital where he is expected to recover. But he was in bad shape when he was airlifted to LDS hospital. He arrived there in critical condition.
Highway Patrol troopers say only the one car was involved in the accident.
The white sedan was heading west off I-215 to Redwood Road. Troopers say the car was speeding off the ramp and flipped several times.
The passenger wasn't wearing a seatbelt and crashed through the passenger side window during one of the rotations. The man was thrown all the way across the road and was killed.
Troopers say this can be attributed to driving drunk.
Trooper Chad Hecker, UHP: "There are some obvious signs of alcohol. Odor, as well as admission to consuming a large quantity of alcohol."
UHP calls the speeding excessive. They say the car stopped rolling and ended up quite a distance from where the accident began.
Law enforcement says both the passenger and the driver are about 22 or 23 years old. They say after an investigation it is likely they will press charges against the man in the hospital.
