PARIS (AP) — Winger Remy Cabella scored one goal and created the other for striker Bafetimbi Gomis as Marseille beat Lorient 2-0 Friday in the French league.
Marseille, which finished 13th last season, had secured only one point from its first two matches.
Cabella opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a free kick from the edge of the penalty, curling the ball just inside the post.
Midway through the first half, Gomis went close to making it 2-0 but was denied by goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte.
But Gomis beat Lecomte with a low shot after running onto Cabella's through ball in the 71st.
The win moved Marseille provisionally up to sixth place ahead of this weekend's matches.
Defending champion Paris Saint-Germain plays at Monaco on Sunday.
