NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Rangers have come to terms with free agent forward Brandon Pirri. The two sides have agreed to the terms of a one-year, $1.1 million deal. Pirri spent last season playing with the Panthers and Ducks, racking up 14 goals and 15 assists in 61 games.
NEW YORK (AP) — American Sloane Stephens has withdrawn from the U.S. Open with a right foot injury. With her departure, Olympic gold medalist Monica Puig (pweeg) becomes the 32nd and final seed. The Open starts play Monday and ends in two weeks.
BROOKLYN, Michigan (AP) — Qualifying is taking place today for Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway. Once again Dale Earnhardt Jr. will not be taking part as he has been dealing with a concussion. The winner a year ago was Matt Kenseth, who led 176 laps to win his third race of the season.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Qualifying for tomorrow night's IndyCar race is being held today at Texas Motor Speedway. This is the resumption of the June race which was postponed after because the track was soaked in rain.
