WEST JORDAN, Utah (AP) — A West Jordan City Council member has pleaded not guilty to leaving the scene of an accident.
South Jordan police cited 60-year-old Jeff Haaga for backing his car into a parked vehicle at a local tavern in July. The bartender told police Haaga ordered four 24-ounce beers and a shot of whiskey, but police did not charge him with a DUI because too much time elapsed between the crash and Haaga's questioning.
South Jordan police are handling the case to avoid a conflict of interest.
Haaga has not attended any council meetings since the incident. Two former mayors and several former city council members have called for him to step down.
Haaga's attorney, Tyler Ayres, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
