MANILA, Philippines (AP) — European shares were mostly lower following mixed trading in Asia, with investors preferring to sit on the sidelines ahead of U.S. Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen's speech later in the day for cues on the timing of the next policy rate hike. The Dow futures were in the green but nearly flat at 18,451 while S&P futures were less than 0.1 percent higher at 2,170.43.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Only one major economic report is scheduled for release today. It's from the Commerce Department and it'll reveal the nation's second -quarter gross domestic product numbers.
BERLIN (AP) — Volkswagen's employee council chief is suggesting that the automaker consider taking stakes in suppliers after a dispute disrupted production in Germany. Volkswagen on Tuesday ended the dispute with two suppliers who stopped delivering parts, briefly affecting nearly 28,000 workers at six plants.
BRUSSELS (AP) — The world's largest brewer, AB Inbev, says it expects to cut about 3 percent of its total workforce once it completes its huge merger with its closest rival, SABMiller. It expects losses at SABMiller's current headquarters as the new company will be based in Leuven, Belgium, and New York.
TOKYO (AP) — Japanese airline All Nippon Airways has started grounding Boeing 787 "Dreamliner" flights after detecting problems with their Rolls-Royce engines. Nine domestic flights were canceled Friday, and others will be canceled through September. ANA says there will be no cancellations on international routes.
