MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump got into a heated long-distance exchange over racism. Clinton said Trump has unleashed the "radical fringe" within the Republican Party, including anti-Semites and white supremacists. Trump rejected Clinton's allegations, and argued that Democrats have abandoned minority voters.

AMATRICE, Italy (AP) — In central Italy, strong aftershocks rattled residents and rescue crews alike today as hopes begin to fade that firefighters will find any more survivors from Wednesday's earthquake. The first funerals are scheduled for some of the 267 victims. The vast majority of the dead were found in the medieval hilltop town of Amatrice (ah-mah-TREE'-cheh).

LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) — Officials in Bolivia are condemning the killing of the country's deputy interior minister. Authorities say striking miners kidnapped and beat the official to death after he showed up to mediate in a bitter conflict over mining laws. The fatal beating follows the killings of two protesters in clashes with police.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — After a deadly attack this week, the American University of Afghanistan says it has started repair work at its sprawling campus on the edge of Kabul. During Wednesday night's attack, a suicide bomber detonated his vehicle at the campus gates while two militants stormed the grounds. At least 13 people died.

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — A police checkpoint in southeast Turkey came under attack from an explosive-laden truck. The state-run news agency and Turkish officials say at least eight police officers were killed and 70 other people were wounded. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but Kurdish militants are suspected.
