ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Former All-Star outfielder Carlos Gomez joined the Texas Rangers and was in their starting lineup Thursday night, five days after signing a minor league deal with the AL West leaders.
Texas added Gomez from Triple-A Round Rock. The two-time All-Star and former Gold Glove winner was in the lineup batting eighth and playing left field in the series opener against Cleveland.
Outfielder Drew Stubbs was designated for assignment to make room on the roster.
Gomez hit .210 with five homers and 29 RBIs in 85 games for Houston before the Astros designated him for assignment Aug. 10. He was given his unconditional release before signing with Texas on Saturday.
