LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Dodgers and Giants complete a three-game series in Los Angeles tonight. By winning the first two games the Dodgers have taken a three-game lead over the Giants in the National League West.
WASHINGTON (AP) — In an attempt to improve their bullpen for the playoff run, the Nationals have acquired veteran relief pitcher Marc Rzepczynski (zep-CHIN'-skee) from Oakland. In return, the A's are getting minor league infielder Max Schrock. Rzepczynski is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in 56 appearances this season for Oakland.
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Browns have reportedly given up on linebacker Barkevious Mingo. A person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press that Mingo, the sixth pick in the 2013 draft, is being traded to the Patriots. The person spoke about the deal on condition of anonymity because the trade has not been finalized.
DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Avalanche have found a new head coach to replace Patrick Roy (wah). Jared Bednar has been hired out of the American Hockey League to replace Roy, who resigned abruptly earlier this month. The 44-year-old Bednar won the American Hockey League's Calder Cup championship as coach of the Lake Erie Monsters last season.
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — The University of North Carolina has a basketball date to fill on the women's schedule after the University of Vermont canceled its game this December with the Tar Heels. Vermont's athletic director cites concerns over the North Carolina state law regarding use of bathrooms by transgender people.
