YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks are welcoming tourists for the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, but a wildfire forced some people to drive a little farther to get to the festivities. The blaze in Grand Teton has closed a route leading to Yellowstone's South Entrance, so some visitors face an hour-long detour. With four other Yellowstone entrances open, visitors won't notice much is unusual inside the world's first national park other than a smoky haze.
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — Natrona County authorities say an improperly used safety cable may have contributed to the June death of an oil rig worker. The Casper Star-Tribune reports that 28-year-old Dennis McCulloch, of Casper, died after falling about 76 feet at the oil well site in Midwest.
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The federal government needs to consider the potential contribution to climate change before allowing oil and gas development on public land, two environmental groups asserted Thursday in a lawsuit over drilling in Western states. Industry advocates stood by their own efforts to keep federal leasing moving ahead.
CODY, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Supreme Court has suspended a Cody lawyer accused of stealing thousands of dollars from his local bar association. The Cody Enterprise reports that Sam Kroene's suspension from practicing law went into effect Wednesday.
