DESTIN, Fla. (AP) — Officials say a 14-year-old Virginia boy drowned while vacationing with his family in the Florida Panhandle.
Okaloosa County Sheriff's spokesman Capt. Ted Pecot told the Northwest Florida Daily News (http://bit.ly/2bRSZ0F ) Joquis Levano of Centreville, Virginia, died Wednesday afternoon off Norriego Point in Destin.
The sheriff's office received a 911 call about a swimmer in distress about 4 p.m.
Pecot says divers found the boy's body about 6:23 p.m. about 50 feet from where he'd been swimming.
Family members told deputies they'd been at the beach for several hours before the boy went missing. They say they couldn't find him once he slipped under water.
