ELKO, Nev. (AP) — City officials in Elko are accepting $500,000 from a construction company to settle a nearly decade-long dispute over crumbling concrete at Elko Regional Airport.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports (http://bit.ly/2bNNcIB ) the City Council voted Tuesday to accept the Canyon Construction Co. offer.
City Manager Curtis Calder says once the money is received, the issue will be closed.
The city sued Canyon in 2007 and spent five years battling about repair and replacement of the concrete aircraft apron at the northeast Nevada airport.
An arbitrator in 2012 found Canyon in breach of contract, but the $952,000 damage award didn't cover the city's legal fees.
The Free Press reports the $3.7 million the city spent for attorneys and consultants is about twice as much as the concrete cost to install.
