WASHINGTON (AP) — An AP review of State Department calendars has found that a large proportion of non-government employees who met with Hillary Clinton while she was secretary of state gave money to the Clinton Foundation. At least 85 of 154 people from private interests who met or had phone conversations scheduled with Clinton donated to her family charity or pledged commitments to its international programs. The donations totaled $156 million.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — President Barack Obama has received a mixed reception on his visit to flood-ravaged Louisiana. Obama was on vacation after a record two days of rain killed 13 people and damaged tens of thousands of homes in the state. One woman calls Obama's visit "too little too late," and says she "saw him playing golf" while her home was filled with 4 feet of water. Others were far less critical and say they appreciated his words of encouragement during a stop in East Baton Rouge Parish.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A curfew that went into effect in East Baton Rouge Parish after the area was hit by catastrophic flooding has been suspended. The sheriff there says the curfew was imposed to let first responders safely do their jobs and allow residents to survey the damage to their homes. At least 19 people have been arrested on looting charges since the curfew went into effect.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas and four other Republican-led states have filed another lawsuit that aims to roll back the Obama administration's efforts to strengthen transgender rights. The states say new federal nondiscrimination health rules could force doctors to help with gender transition contrary to their medical judgment or religious beliefs. Transgender rights advocates called that a far-fetched hypothetical, saying a person wouldn't approach a doctor who lacked suitable experience and expertise.

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are ending the day modestly higher as the major indexes inch back up toward the record highs reached last week. The Dow rose 18 points. The S&P gained 4 points and the Nasdaq rose 15 points. Word that business has been expanding steadily across the eurozone helped drive the gains. And a jump in sales of new homes in the U.S. gave homebuilders a boost.
