ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey's state-run news agency says Kurdish rebels have attacked a bomb disposal team in southeast Turkey, killing two Turkish soldiers.

Anadolu Agency says the team was working to dispose of an improvised explosive device allegedly planted by the rebels on a road near the village of Andac, in the mainly Kurdish province of Sirnak, when they were attacked on Tuesday.

The agency said the attack was carried out by rebels of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, which has led a three-decade long insurgency for autonomy in southeast Turkey.

Violence between the PKK and the government flared anew last summer after a fragile peace process with the rebels collapsed.

More than a dozen people were killed last week in PKK bomb attacks targeting police and military.
