BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) — The state auditor is investigating a mailer claiming to be from a new charter school that mentions the arrest of an eastern Pennsylvania public high school student for drug possession.
Officials with the Innovative Arts Academy Charter School in Catasauqua say the mailer wasn't authorized by them. It references the arrest last year of a 17-year-old Liberty High School student who was found to be in possession of 285 packets of heroin and 43 of cocaine.
The mailer says the student was caught with more than $3,000 worth of drugs and says "Why worry about this type of student at school?"
Bethlehem Superintendent of Schools Joseph Roy says Liberty High School is immune to "scurrilous attacks."
An attorney for the charter school says officials are appalled by the mailer.
