IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Authorities have ordered evacuations in eastern Idaho where a fast-moving wildfire burning rangeland and sage grouse habitat in a rural area has ballooned to 40 square miles. The Bonneville County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday ordered the evacuations east of Idaho Falls but the number of residents told to leave isn't clear.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former New Hampshire sheriff candidate's guilty pleas to federal charges in an armed confrontation with U.S. land management agents near cattleman Cliven Bundy's ranch in Nevada have been delayed. Defense attorney Brian Smith said Tuesday that a paperwork snag caused the postponement of Gerald "Jerry" DeLemus' plea date to Thursday.
AMERICAN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Eastern Idaho authorities are searching for a person suspected of stabbing a free-roaming pregnant horse to death hours before she was going to be adopted. KIDK-TV reported rancher Kimberly Clark found her 5- or 6-year-old mustang Dee stabbed to death in a fenced-in field at her ranch in American Falls on Sunday.
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — More firefighters headed Tuesday to Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks, where large, growing wildfires have closed or are threatening key roads and forced the evacuation of several campgrounds during one of the busiest times of the summer tourist season. A fire in Grand Teton park made a 5-mile run on Monday, forcing closure of a 10-mile stretch of road leading into Yellowstone's South Entrance.
