WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Clinton is pushing back against charges that she's physically unfit for the White House. The Democratic presidential candidate says the accusations are part of a "wacky strategy" and an "alternative reality" that's not focused on the kinds of issues that are most important to voters. Clinton made the comment in an interview with late night host Jimmy Kimmel.

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — There are conflicting signals about Donald Trump's immigration policy. After campaigning on mass deportations, Trump said Monday that he would be "fair, but firm." He said that does not amount to "flip-flopping." A campaign official says an immigration policy speech that had been set for Thursday has been postponed. At a rally Monday night in Akron, Trump repeated his signature pledge to build a border wall and force Mexico to pay for it.

PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) — A California judge under fire for a light sentence given to a Stanford University swimmer is recusing himself from making his first key decision in another sex case. The Mercury News reports that Santa Clara County Judge Aaron Persky filed a statement with the court saying that some people might doubt that he could be impartial. Persky was the target of a recall campaign after he sentenced former Stanford swimmer Brock Turner to six months in jail for sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman.

NEW YORK (AP) — A day after the end of the summer Olympics in Rio, major sponsors have ended their association with U.S. Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte. They include swimsuit company Speedo and clothing giant Ralph Lauren. Lochte reported that he and three teammates were victims of an armed robbery in Rio, but he later revised that account of what police say was a confrontation with armed security guards at a gas station over a damaged restroom.
