LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Clark County School District is set to receive $5 million after suing an air conditioning contractor that abandoned work at 15 schools and declared bankruptcy.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/2by3etD ) a federal judge approved the settlement Thursday between the district and Travelers Casualty and Surety Company of America. The company insured Big Town Mechanical LLC to upgrade the heating, ventilation and air conditioning at the Las Vegas-area schools.
Big Town had agreed to complete about $45 million of projects for the district before going bankrupt in 2013.
The district then sued the contractor, resulting in Travelers finishing the work for only $4.5 million.
By settling, the insurance company agreed to pay compensation for the project delays and allowed the district to keep about $600,000 in remaining contract balances.
