MORGAN CITY, La. (AP) — A former teacher has pleaded no contest to battery after being accused of holding a 9-year-old student and telling another student to hit the boy last year.

At a prosecutor's request, the judge dismissed a charge of contributing to juvenile delinquency against 35-year-old Randy Louis of Jeanerette. Louis had been a teacher at the St. Mary Parish Alternative Program school in Verdunville. The Daily Review (http://bit.ly/2bGYP3D ) reports that his no-contest plea was made Aug. 9.

Louis had been sued by the mother of the boy who allegedly did the hitting.

Samantha Moore said her son's hand was broken. She said in a motion earlier this month that a settlement had been reached, and the judge dismissed the suit.
