WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus (ryns PREE'-bus) is describing Donald Trump as "disciplined and mature" and says he's "going to get this thing back on track." Polls now mostly show Trump lagging Democratic rival Hillary Clinton by 5 percentage points or more nationally, but Priebus insists on ABC that the Republican presidential nominee is finally hitting his stride and will catch up with Clinton by around Labor Day.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — The 82,000 Southern California residents told to evacuate because of an aggressive wildfire are now being allowed to return home. Fire officials say the blaze, which has burned nearly 58 square miles, is 85 percent contained The wildfire, 60 miles east of Los Angeles, destroyed at least 105 homes and 216 outbuildings across rural, mountainous terrain.

TOKYO (AP) — Strong winds from a typhoon have forced air traffic controllers to evacuate the control tower at Tokyo's Narita International Airport and hundreds of domestic flights have been canceled at the city's other major airport. The typhoon made landfall Monday afternoon, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to Tokyo and the surrounding areas. The typhoon was last tracked with sustained winds of more than 78 mph and gusts of up to 112 mph.

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — Somalia's prime minister is condemning Sunday's twin blasts that killed at least 17 people and wounded more than 30 others at a local government headquarters. Police say one bomber rammed a car packed with explosives into a checkpoint at the main gate of Puntland's local government. The al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab group is claiming responsibility for the attack.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran's defense minister is chastising Russia for making public that it's been using Iran's bases to launch attacks in Syria. State TV's website quotes Iranian Gen. Hossein Dehghan as saying "Russians seek to show that they are a superpower" and that the announcement by Russia was "kind of show off and ungentlemanly."
