HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — State officials are hoping to teach Connecticut farmers how to reduce risks to public health when they hold open houses and tours.
The Department of Agriculture, the Connecticut Farm Bureau Association and UConn Extension are hosting a one-day conference on Wednesday at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. It follows a recent outbreak of E. coli that sickened dozens of people who attended an open house at a goat dairy farm in Lebanon.
Experts from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other organizations will be on hand to discuss everything from how outbreak investigations are handled to safely preparing food on the farm.
Pre-registration is available online for $10 at www.store.uconn.edu . Walk-ins can pay a $15 admission fee at the door.
