LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — University of Kentucky police have arrested a Lexington man after textbooks were discovered missing from campus offices.
University police say in a news release that 30-year-old Anthony Shields was charged Saturday with third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools.
The statement says information from police at Morehead State University led University of Kentucky officers to contact local bookstores to determine where stolen textbooks had been sold. Shields allegedly was caught selling stolen books from Western Kentucky at a Lexington bookstore. He was questioned by police and arrested.
UK police issued alerts this summer after textbooks were stolen from several buildings. Police say other colleges and universities also may have been targeted.
Shields was remanded to the Fayette County Detention Center. It wasn't immediately known whether he has an attorney.
