NORTHFIELD, Vt. (AP) — Vermont's Norwich University, the nation's oldest private military college, is welcoming its largest-ever first-year class. About 600 new members of the Corp of Cadets — or Rooks — were expected to arrive on the Northfield campus on Sunday.
An additional 300 civilian students are expected to arrive on campus Wednesday.
School officials say incoming students have average SAT scores of 1040 and an average grade point average of 3.07. Seventy-nine members of the class have received extremely competitive three- or four-year ROTC scholarships, and seventeen students will join the Honors Program.
The top sending states are Massachusetts, where 168 of the new students come from, followed by Vermont, New York, New Jersey and New Hampshire.
Most popular majors are criminal justice, mechanical engineering, computer security and information assurance and civil engineering.
