TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Two southern Arizona Democrats are vying for a chance to challenge first-term Republican Congresswoman Martha McSally for the 2nd Congressional District seat.
Former state representatives Matt Heinz and Victoria Steele will face off in the Aug. 30 Democratic primary.
Heinz is a practicing doctor who says he will advocate for more jobs, better benefits for seniors and for a stronger health care system.
Steele, who left her post as a state representative early this year, is a former news anchor and mental health counselor who says she will focus on the economy, immigration and climate change.
McSally won the seat in 2014 by 167 votes. The race will likely be one of the most closely watched in the nation.
