NOVI, Mich. (AP) — A suburban Detroit shopping center was evacuated on Saturday following a smash-and-grab robbery, but police said the scene was later secured.

Police said they in a Facebook post that they were investigating a robbery during which jewelry cases were smashed at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi, Michigan.

Customers and employees were told to evacuate the indoor shopping center.

Novi police said no shots were fired and some shoppers may have mistaken the sound of breaking glass during the robbery for gunshots.

The mall is home to popular shops such as Helzberg Diamonds, Coach, Macy's and Nordstrom.
