CINCINNATI (AP) — Brandon Finnegan of the Cincinnati Reds has lost his no-hit bid on a leadoff single in the seventh inning by Adrian Gonzalez of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Finnegan shut down the visiting Dodgers through the first six innings, striking out six.
The only no-hitter in the majors this season came in Cincinnati, by Jake Arrieta of the Cubs at Great American Ball Park in April.
The Reds lead 8-0. Finnegan has doubled and scored two runs.
The 23-year-old lefty began the day with a 7-9 record and a 4.54 ERA.
