ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — A tragedy is unfolding in Turkey which has been rocked by a wave of attacks in the past year that have either been claimed by Kurdish militants or blamed on the Islamic State group. Officials say at least 30 people were killed and 94 others were wounded in a bomb attack targeting an outdoor wedding ceremony in the southeastern part of the country. Turkey's deputy prime minister says it appears to have been a suicide bombing.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Louisiana officials say an estimated 60,000 homes have been damaged by massive flooding that inundated the southern part of the state. Mike Steele, spokesman for the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, says 102,000 people have also registered for federal assistance. The state is slowly bailing itself out from flooding that swept through the region last weekend.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Authorities say they've found the body of a 5-year-old Minnesota girl just hours after they had issued an Amber Alert saying she had been abducted by a family friend. The body of Alayna Jeanne Ertl was found in Cass County, about 200 miles north of Minneapolis. The suspect in her disappearance, 26-year-old Zachary Anderson, has been arrested along with a vehicle. The girl was from Watkins, about 75 miles west of Minneapolis.
WAVERLY, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio attorney general says whoever killed eight members from the same family in Ohio were familiar with the victims, their homes and the surrounding area. Attorney General Mike DeWine tells the Cincinnati Enquirer that federal agencies are working with state and local authorities on the investigation. Eight members of the Rhoden family were found shot to death in four Pike County homes in April. No one has been arrested.
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The dominant U.S. women's basketball team is doing it again. The team won a sixth consecutive Olympic gold medal in impressive fashion today, routing Spain 101-72. The Americans played nearly flawless basketball in Rio, and were never challenged. They have won 49 consecutive games in the Olympics with only one of those decided by single digits.
