TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida State has suspended quarterback Malik Henry for a violation of team rules. Coach Jimbo Fisher announced Henry's suspension Saturday following the first of two practices but refused to say exactly what it was for or how long it would last.
The freshman is a highly touted part of the 2016 recruiting class that's ranked among the nation's best. Henry was an early enrollee and threw a pair of touchdowns in the spring game.
His suspension further hurts Florida State's depth at quarterback. Sean Maguire is out 3-4 weeks after having a screw placed in his left foot last week. Redshirt freshman Deondre Francois is the starter for the Sept. 5 opener in Orlando against Mississippi, but the backup spot is undetermined. The only two quarterbacks remaining on the roster are sophomore J.J. Cosentino and walk-on Jake Rizzo.
