RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Gymnast Simone Biles will carry the U.S. flag during the closing ceremony of the Olympics. The five-time medalist was chosen by fellow U.S. Olympians. Biles made her Olympic debut in Rio, winning team gold and individual titles in women's all-around, vault and floor exercise, along with a bronze on balance beam.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The U.S. women's basketball team is going for gold this afternoon. The Americans are playing Spain in the gold medal game and the U.S. is going for a sixth consecutive Olympic championship. The two teams met in the preliminary pool and the Americans won by 40 points.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — For decades the U.S. and Cuba dominated Olympic boxing. This afternoon boxers from the two nations are squaring off for the gold as U.S. bantamweight Shakur Stevenson faces defending Olympic champ Robeisy Ramirez.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Just one day game is on the schedule in baseball this afternoon. In San Francisco the Giants are playing host to the Mets. The Giants have led the National League West for much of the season but they now find themselves in a dogfight with the arch-rival Dodgers, leading by just a half-game.

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) — Sprint Cup racing is taking place tonight in Bristol, Tennessee. The winner of the pole was Carl Edwards of Joe Gibbs Racing, which took the top three spots in qualifying. Teammates Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch are starting second and third.
