RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Klay Thompson scored 22 points and the U.S. men's basketball team advanced to the gold-medal game by beating Spain 82-76. Kevin Durant added 14 points and Kyrie Irving had 13 for the Americans, while Pau Gasol scored 23 points for Spain. It was the lowest-scoring game for the Americans in the Olympics since the 2004 semifinals.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The IOC has set up a disciplinary commission to investigate the incident involving U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte (LAHK'-tee) and three of his teammates at a Rio de Janeiro gas station. Lochte has apologized today for his behavior surrounding the early-morning incident, which he described as an armed robbery. Brazilian police say there wasn't a robbery, and that Lochte, Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger, and Jimmy Feigen vandalized a bathroom while intoxicated and were confronted by armed security guards.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The NFL has suspended Steelers running back Le'Veon (LAY'-vee-ahn) Bell for the first three games of the season for missing multiple drug tests. Bell initially faced a four-game suspension, but it was reduced to three games following an appeal to the league.

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) — Carl Edwards has won the pole for Saturday night's Sprint Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Edwards had a top lap of 131.407 mph on the half-mile track in the final segment of the three-round knockout qualifying. Edwards teammates Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch were the next two fastest qualifiers.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — South Korea's Si Woo Kim is the leader midway through the PGA's Wyndham Championship at Greensboro, North Carolina. Kim set a tournament record with a 10-under 60 for a 12-under total, two strokes ahead of Kevin Na, Hideki Matsuyama, Lucas Glover and Jim Furyk (FYOOR'-ihk). Glover had a chance for a 59 and a share of the lead until he missed a six-foot birdie try on 17 and bogeyed his final hole.
