RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte and three teammates could face punishment from USA Swimming, after lying about a drunken evening in Rio. Lochte had claimed that he and his teammates had been robbed at gunpoint in a taxi. Local authorities say that instead, the four intoxicated swimmers had vandalized a gas station bathroom and paid about $50 for the damage after armed security guards tried to hold them until police arrived.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — American Ashton Eaton has retained his title as the best all-around athlete in the world by tying the decathlon Olympic record. For Jamaican track star Usain Bolt, Thursday night brought a gold medal in the 200 meters, but the time of 19.78 seconds was .59 short of his own world record. Bolt says, "my body didn't respond. I'm getting old." Today's 4x100-meter relay final is all that's left now between Bolt and an historic three golds at three straight Olympics.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — It could be a first for Donald Trump, at least during this presidential campaign. Trump says he regrets some of the caustic comments he's made that may have caused people pain. At a rally in Charlotte, North Carolina, last night, Trump says, "Sometimes in the heat of debate and speaking on a multitude of issues, you don't choose the right words or you say the wrong thing. I have done that."

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Officials in Pittsburgh say one of two pedestrians struck by a car while leaving a Pirates game at PNC Park last week has died. Eighty-year-old William Gallagher and his wife were hit by the car as they were crossing a street after the game on Aug. 9. The husband died early Thursday. Authorities say 28-year-old Bryant Ellis was driving the car that struck the couple. He's charged with causing an accident that involved personal injury and driving without a license.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — The Kentucky Supreme Court will wade into a dispute between a husband and wife. Eighty-eight-year-old Elmer Riehle wants to divorce his wife Carolyn, saying the marriage is "irretrievably broken." But Carolyn Riehle is more than a wife, she's been her husband's guardian since a jury ruled in 2008 that her husband was mentally incompetent, despite his objections. Elmer Riehle says he's a prisoner in his own home with his wife as his court-appointed warden. The court will hear arguments in the case today.
