Hillary Clinton made a crucial speech to Democrats tonight, though not the one many thought it would be at the start of her Presidential campaign. She called on her supporters to get behind the party's nominee, Barack Obama.
Was the speech enough for Hillary holdouts? Utah delegates say she sounded sincere and convincing when she asked them to support the Obama/Biden ticket.
Hillary's speech tonight was one of the most anticipated and most important of this week's convention. She delivered a powerful endorsement of Obama's campaign.
"My friends, it is time to take back the country we love, and whether you voted for me or you voted for Barack, the time is now to unite as a single party with a single purpose," she said. "Most of all, I ran to stand up for all those who have been invisible to their government for eight long years. Those are the reasons I ran for president, and those are the reasons I support Barack Obama for president."
She added, "My mother was born before women could vote. My daughter got to vote for her mother for president."
In the convention hall, the applause was deafening, and our Utah delegates liked what they heard.
Patricia Arent said, "She was very sincere, emphasized it in many ways. I was impressed. She wants the party to move forward."
Pat Jones said, "I have felt nothing but momentum."
And Lisa Allcott said, "You volunteer, you work really hard for a candidate, you're going to take your direction from her, so it was great to hear from her."
