PHOENIX (AP) — Police documents and body camera footage show that a 10-year-old Arizona boy who has been missing for a month had been found away from his home before.
Authorities have been actively searching for Jesse Wilson since he went missing from his Phoenix-area home on July 18. Searches have involved drones, U.S. Border Patrol tracking dogs and citizen volunteers.
Police records show that officers were called to Jesse's street in Buckeye on April 25 because a neighbor had found the boy in his garage. Police say Jesse was unresponsive and refused to let anyone near him, The Arizona Republic reported (http://bit.ly/2bpsn9Z). He said he used to go to school at night and he wanted to go to school.
Witnesses told police they saw Jesse climbing out of his second-story window. Officers found Jesse's school uniform and a belt in a bush near the ledge they believe Jesse climbed down.
When officer's contacted Jesse's mother, Crystal Wilson, she said he suffered from "learning and developmental issues," and that the condition was ongoing and he was taking medication for it.
His mother said she installed locks on the lower floor because he had tried to get out before and that if he was injured it was because he fell. Jesse did have an injury on his chin he said was from when he climbed down.
"He is a handful," Wilson told officers in body camera video. "The boy is lying. If he hurt himself, he'd be bruised up. I will keep a better eye on him."
She said she had purchased an identity bracelet for Jesse but he broke it off, hurting himself in the process.
