SALT LAKE CITY — Employees from the Salt Lake City Water Department found a body while cleaning a drainage pipe Wednesday, according to police.
Just after 9 a.m., workers cleaning a pipe near the Jordan River at 1310 S. 900 West found the body of a badly decomposed person. Salt Lake fire crews helped remove the body from the water.
According to Salt Lake Police Sgt. Robin Heiden, police are confident that the body is that of an adult male.
Salt Lake police detective Richard Chipping said there was nothing on the body that could help investigators make further identification.
The body was taken to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office. Chipping said dental records might be used to attempt to identify the person.
It could take one to two months to make an identification, Heiden said.
Investigators weren't sure Thursday if the person died where the body was found or if it had washed downriver from another location.
