KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A Knox County Schools student has started a petition against a dress code rule requiring shorts to be longer than finger-length.

Media outlets report a Farragut High School student recently created a petition at Change.org challenging the enforcement on the length of shorts. It has more than 2,000 signatures.

The dress code requires shorts to be longer than finger-length; meaning that if a student puts his or her hand at their side, shorts must be longer than the fingertip resting on the leg.

The student who created the petition says it can be difficult to find shorts that are long enough.

Schools spokeswoman Abbey Harris says the Knox County Board of Education reviewed and revised the dress code policy at several public board meetings, and nobody raised any objections. She added that the board values the opinions of students.
