TETERBORO, N.J. (AP) — More changes in the Donald Trump campaign. The Republican presidential nominee is bringing in Stephen Bannon of Breitbart News as chief executive officer and promoting pollster Kellyanne Conway to campaign manager. Campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who took over the reins following the departure of Corey Lewandowski in June, will maintain his current title. Trump has been slipping in the polls in recent weeks.
BEIRUT (AP) — Russia's foreign minister is rejecting allegations that his country's use of Iranian military bases for airstrikes in Syria violates any UN sanctions on Iran. Sergey Lavrov says "there has been no supply, sale or transfer of combat jets to Iran" and he insists that the Russian Air Force's presence in Iran is only about using its facilities. Yesterday, U.S. State Department spokesman Mark Toner said Russia's operation out of Iran could violate a U.N. resolution.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Officials in a West Virginia city are warning people about a dangerous batch of heroin after authorities responded to 26 overdoses in within a four-hour span. The rash of overdoses came Monday in the city of Huntington. Cabell County EMS director Gordon Merry says the heroin was laced with a strong substance, but authorities aren't sure what it is.
SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — Police in Maryland say a seventh body has been found in the debris of an explosion and fire in an apartment complex in Silver Spring. The Aug. 10 blast sent debris hundreds of feet, and people more than a mile away reported the blast was strong enough to shake their homes. More than 30 people were injured, including three firefighters.
BERLIN (AP) — Backpacks and other large bags are banned from this year's Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, and a fence will be erected in an effort to increase security. Bavaria was shaken last month by three attacks in a week. And a teenager in Munich killed nine people and then himself in a shooting rampage. Munich deputy mayor Josef Schmid says Oktoberfest "won't become a high-security zone, but there will be important changes that affect all guests."
